Position Title: HeadEnd Manager Compensation: DOE
Reports to: Chief Technology Officer Supervises: HeadEnd Team
Position Summary
The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure customer loyalty by providing superior management in HeadEnd technological and personnel direction. Position provides leadership in engineering and operations of HeadEnd. Ensures compliance with quality standards, FCC regulations, the creation and delivery of HeadEnd projects, capital budget and expense.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Provide technical leadership in HeadEnd systems – 60%
o Provide a mix of technical leadership and familiarity with all aspects of HeadEnd engineering and maintenance.
o Ensure operational readiness through management of documentation of current systems and staff.
o Integrating new technologies and services to support implementation of new product development.
· Supervision of cable HeadEnd staff – 40%
o Hiring, evaluation, development, disciplining of staff
o Mentoring/coaching to instill cross-functional understanding and depth of knowledge across all aspects of HeadEnd systems
o Cross departmental communication
· Technical mastery in three of the following areas and operational expertise in four of the areas:
o Motorola DAC and STB family
o Motorola OAMP Environment (NC, OM and ARPD)
o RF CMTS, forward /reverse combining
o C-COR VOD and serving group creation
o Broadcast and narrowcast RF engineering
o Optical engineering distribution between HE and HFC
o Digital video and multiplexing
o Digital simulcast
o OpenCable environment
· Management in developing and maintaining business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
· Anticipate future capacity needs and recommend solutions.
· Demonstrates high ethical standards, strong work ethic with an emphasis on team commitment, shows respect for others, acknowledges and builds on others ideas, and supports group decisions.
· Implements continuous process improvement principles.
· Six (6) years of experience in the cable industry with degree or ten years (10) without degree with current emphasis on maintenance, engineering and management of HeadEnd systems desired
· Bachelor’s degree in technical field or significant equivalent experience a plus.
· Other duties as assigned by supervisor

· Business and Operations Management - Ability to build and maintain good system user relations, effectively identify and address concerns; build and maintain relationships with outside vendors, including administration and conflict resolution.
· Project Management – Working knowledge of project management principles: project planning, resource management, administration and logistics, risk mitigation, issues management, business impact management, platform and environment management, and security and quality assurance.
· Technical/Analytical Competency – Demonstrated ability to analyze job/project requirements, prepare specifications, evaluate hardware and software, and prepare time and cost estimates for software development and/or implementation; Perform analysis and documentation within all phases of application configuration and implementation; Review conceptual design and detail design documents to ensure understanding and technical feasibility; Develop, test, document, and implement new applications, enhancements and equipment installation; Ability to maintain exceptional HeadEnd reliability and uptime.
· Leadership - Demonstrated, extensive team/project leadership experience involving complex, cross-functional development/application.
· Training and Development - Perform limited applications training for the internal client community; Identify and resolve system/staff inefficiencies, acting decisively and with fairness when dealing with problems (technical or personnel); Develop broad cross- functional guidelines for staff; Create opportunities, mentor/coach staff to encourage confidence, initiative, creativity, accountability; Assist in career/skills development and succession planning.
· Communication skills – Demonstrated ability to: transfer technical information and concepts effectively (verbally and in writing) to diverse groups of people with varying levels of technical know-how; devise reports and conduct group meetings that effectively uncover and relay information needed to understand and perform individual roles within a “big picture” cross-functional environment.
· Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of departmental and systems information, personnel and customer account information.
· Demonstrated management and supervisory skills.
· Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record (supplied by applicant).
· Successful criminal background check is required (conducted by BendBroadband in conjunction with the Oregon State Police).
· Final applicants are required to take and satisfactorily pass a pre-employment drug test within 24 hours of notification
